After College Tips!

c0d76c947d636c4295badc7559bb5508

Ever since the beginning of May, when I graduated from Ole Miss, I have been stressing about where my life path will take me. I have been applying to jobs, editing my resume almost weekly for any possible errors, and checking my inbox like it’s my job.

However, I have recently been trying to focus on bettering myself. What do I mean by bettering myself? I mean pushing myself, taking a leap and applying for jobs that I thought I wasn’t good enough for. I mean educating myself, finding out who I am and what’s going on around me, researching jobs, cities, companies, clients, and case studies. This has all been a lot of work but it has been very rewarding.

Today’s blog post includes three websites that have been very helpful for me and I am currently obsessing over.

Educate yourself:

I have been trying to educate myself by subscribing to companies such as GoTidbits and the Skimm and reading up!

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 11.15.40 PM

GoTidbits is a website with “the inside scoop for the gal about town.” You can choose to subscribe to Tidbits for the inside scoop on a variety of cities such as: Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, San Antonio, and San Diego. Or you can subscribe to “everywhere” to learn the inside scoop on all of the listed cities! You can also choose to subscribe to Kidbits! I follow San Antonio Tidbits, Dallas Tidbits, Austin Tidbits, and Houston Tidbits because those are the primary areas that I am looking for jobs. When you subscribe, you will get free Tidbit emails sent to your inbox twice-weekly!

This is a great subscription if you are new to one of the cities listed above, or if you are simply wanting to get more involved! Tidbits has all the inside information about absolutely everything for women, including: local fashion, cuisine, cocktail culture, beauty, and tidbits. There is also TidbitsTreats which provides subscribers with coupons to places around town! Also, Tidbits has a Tastemakers section where Tidbits sits down and has a couple of cocktails with the stars! You can read interviews with people such as Bravo Star Brad Goreski, Lauren Conrad, Tory Burch, Brian Patrick Flynn, Jonathan Adler, and so many more interesting people! Tidbits is also in the process of creating a Social Diary, which is a social calendar with dates for sip and style events. This calendar is perfect for someone who is new in town and wants to meet people, or if you want to score some great deals at local stores!

The Skimm is a free subscription that sends you daily emails Monday-Friday about what is going on in the world. If you’re young or in your early 20s like me, this is a great way to stay in touch with the news. My favorite thing about this subscription is that they do the reading for you, you just have to skim through! No need to go to several different newspaper website, or read through several different newspapers, but who reads newspapers nowadays? Sad, but true. These daily emails are a great thing to read first thing in the morning so that you are caught up and know what’s going on in the world around you.

Today’s Skimm included…

  • A quote of the day, which was from Steve Martin (one of my favorite actors, he is such a precious old man).
  • Lots of information regarding the Islamic extremist group, ISIS, and Iran.
  • The World Cup news – who beat who, what teams are playing today, even a special term called a “hat trick” so that you can impress others in conversation about the World Cup.
  • News about the Russian gas company Gazprom
  • News about Kenya
  • The death of Tony Gwynn (baseball legend)
  • News about Argentina
  • Things to know (Shangri-La is not a place, it’s a fictional paradise from a 1930s novel and is now a luxury hotel chain).
  • Skimm Gift (enter to win a VIP trip for a two-night stay at The Breakers in Palm Beach, $500 Lilly Pulitzer Shopping spree, a $500 Travel Voucher, and more!!)

To subscribe to theSkimm, click here.

Both GoTidbits and theSkimm are great subscriptions to further your knowledge about what’s going on in your life, both locally and worldwide! Trust me, you’re going to want to subscribe to these two companies and you won’t regret it!

What’s your personality type?

Tonight I took a quiz that showcases possible career paths for different personality types from Good Co’s Personality Canvas. My quiz results were surprisingly very accurate! FYI the quiz is completely free, the website is not a scam (that was my first reaction when I saw a link for a personality quiz…which other companies actually charge to see results for).

My Results

My Results

My results:

  • I am both an idealist and an advocate. But I am more of an idealist. My idealist side says that I am innovative and tolerant. My advocate side says that I am empathetic, reliable, and pragmatic.
  • My unique strengths are that I am warm, fair, patient, friendly, steady, and methodical.
  • My unique idealist traits are that I am someone who is very understanding and tolerant.
  • My ideal organizational archetype: Nuclear Family. According to the website, the Nuclear Family is, “Like the Brady Bunch of the working world, the Nuclear Family is fun, creative, and collaborative. Although they’re quite innovative and enjoy a family-like atmosphere, they maintain a structured environment and adhere to a clear employment hierarchy. Employees can expect fair compensation and opportunity for advancement based on seniority (groovy bellbottoms not included).”
  • My workplace approach: “You tend to be conscientious, accurate, and methodical. You like to stick to the plan. You are likely to be well-organized. You are good with deadlines. You tend to always meet your obligations. You will more often than not do your share of the work. You hate to let others down. You are likely to be a team player who doesn’t seek personal glory. You prefer your role to be clearly defined. You tend to be more of a persuader rather than a dominant leader. You are very encouraging of people. You are good at delegating work and getting people involved. You are likely to be friendly and relaxed with others. You tend be among the most likeable on a team.”

But the website doesn’t only give you results, it gives you lots of other information regarding your personality type in the workplace!

The website also tells you about your…

  • Social type (mine is motivating!)
  • Work type (mine is collaborative!)
  • Key trait (mine is curiosity!)
  • Famous celebrities (celebrities with your personality traits)
  • Career tips (for people with your personality type)
  • Ideal jobs
  • Work style
  • How to communicate with people of your same personality type
  • How to handle conflict with people of your same personality type
  • How your archetype works with others (i.e. rock, technician, humanitarian, dreamer, go-getter, socialite, protector, strategist, inventor, straight shooter, advocate, maverick, caretaker, visionary, and mastermind)

Once you have found out your archetype you can…

  • See fit with your job – See how well you fit with your company and manager at your current job (anonymously).
  • Find peer compatibility
  • Understand your team
  • View company cultures – Find somewhere that lets you shine, discover companies and teams that match your work style.
  • Explore high-fit jobs – Discover jobs that are in-sync with your personality, skills, and ambitions.

You can also share your quiz results via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, or email so that prospective employers can learn more about you!

I hope these websites interest you and help you out as much as they have helped me out!

Doing the Smart thing

Smart Barre in Alamo Heights (San Antonio, Texas)

Smart Barre in Alamo Heights (San Antonio, Texas)

Today I went to my first Smart Barre class! Smart Barre is a combination of yoga, Pilates, and ballet which targets the body areas in which women struggle: the core, hips, thighs, seat and arms. Smart Barre promises that in just 10 consistent classes, you will notice a change! If you ask me, that’s something worth achieving.

I signed up through the Smart Barre website the night before. Here is a list of their class schedule and prices for their various memberships. I purchased the Single class for $19. It’s a great deal!

The San Antonio studio requires you to come to class early, about 15 minutes, to fill out a short questionnaire. I would recommend signing up for a class online, or at your local studio well before you want to take the class. Smart Barre limits their class size to maximize each individual’s experience. So just know that if you come to the studio and sign up a few minutes before class time, the class might already be full. Click the picture below for a closer view of the Alamo Heights studio’s pricing.

Smart Barre Alamo Heights Pricing

Smart Barre Alamo Heights Pricing

Clothing Requirements:

  • Socks (non-slip exercise socks are recommended but not required)
  • Workout pants or capris
  • A tank top or T-shirt (it’s better to wear a fitted top)

My Experience:

I walked in the Smart Barre studio in Alamo Heights and was pleasantly surprised. The lobby was beautiful. White, clean walls and an array of their cute and trendy merchandise greeted me. The woman at the desk, Emily, who I later found out was the instructor for my class that day, was very pleasant and helpful!

I used to take ballet classes from age 3-6th grade. I have also taken several yoga and Pilates classes before at my local gym. I walked in thinking that it would not be very difficult for me. I was wrong, but in a good way! The class was great!! The class size was not too big and not too small. I personally received a lot of one-on-one help from the instructor. Like I said, I was wrong about it not being difficult, the instructor helped me a lot to correct my form and perform the exercises correctly.

After only a few exercises during the beginning of class, my legs were already shaking! The class was clearly split up into yoga, Pilates, and ballet exercises and we worked on strengthening and toning all parts of the body. Smart Barre includes exercises with low impact but high intensity. There was not a single part of the class that didn’t push me to work hard. The class included weights for strengthening exercises and a ball for abdominal exercises.

The consistent attention to perfecting your form while performing each exercise truly helped me get the most out of my workout experience. The class ended with some stretching and a calming yoga sequence, perfect way to end the class!

I really enjoyed my first Smart Barre classes and am looking forward to attending more classes!

Happy #TasselTuesday everyone!

Although #TasselTuesday will not become a weekly hashtag for my blog, I felt like today it needed to be official. This year I have become somewhat infatuated with tassel jewelry. I just think they are so cute and fun! I have been keeping up with various jewelry lines who sell tassel jewelry but I have found that a lot of them are very pricey.

Finally, I found a jeweler who was selling her line at a boutique in my college town! I felt as though this was a sign, so I investigated. Lou.C. Jewelry was founded by Sarah Cox in Nashville, Tennessee. She has really cute, vibrant jewelry. In Oxford, Mississippi (my college town) you can find her jewelry at Katherine Beck (an adorable gift shop!!).

Here are some of the earrings that I am currently swooning over from Lou.C. Jewelry…

Lou.C. Jewelry

Lou.C. Jewelry

  • Turquoise tassel earrings with large sea green stones $58.00
  • Hot pink handmade tassels + crystal gem $50.00
  • 3.5″ turquoise tassels + blue stone $50.00
  • Orange tassels + turquoise stone $54.00
  • Druzy + purple tassels $55.00
  • Bright orange tassel earrings with hot pink chalcedony stones $50.00

These tassel earrings are so cute and, trust me, I’ve compared many other jewelers and have yet to find someone who has great prices like Lou.C. Jewelry!

Have fun shopping!

My Favorite Wedges for Summer 2014

A great wedge is one of my favorite accessories during the summertime. You can change your casual summer dress from a  day outfit to a cute night outfit by dressing it up with a great pair of wedges! You can also wear a colorful top, white skinny jeans, and a pair of wedges for a dinner date.

I particularly like brown wedges (or neutral wedges) as you can tell from the picture below. But there are so many great neutral wedges that have a pop of color! For example, the ‘Emily 34 Aqua and Tan Platform Wedge Sandals from Lulu’s (#2). You can also experiment with several different types of wedges such as straw or cork.

In spirit of #FavoritesFriday, here are nine wedges that I think are fabulous for this summer…

June 6: Favorites Friday

June 6 Fav FridayToday’s #FavoritesFriday features fun, bright colors for this summer!

  1. The ‘Beaded Snake Gown’ by Mara Hoffman — $1,397. This dress obviously exceeds my budget, but #FavoritesFriday doesn’t have a budget! #FavoritesFriday is all about what are my current favorite things, no matter the price. This dress has a gorgeous back and the colorful detailed pattern is simply stunning.
  2. Oscar de la Renta ‘Short Dotted Beaded Tassel Clip-On Earrings’ in ‘Sorbet’ from Neiman Marcus — $241. These earrings are so beautiful and so fun! As usual, I’m talking about tassels on my blog. I just can’t get enough of them!!
  3. Joie ‘A La Plage Nice’ Metallic Thong Sandals in rose gold from Shopbop — $125. These shoes are a perfect example of a classic pair of thong sandals. These sandals come in several different colors and are perfect to pair with any outfit!
  4. The ‘Bella Flamingo Raffia Clutch’ by Elaine Turner — $178. This bright pink clutch is made out of beach grass raffia with a genuine leather trim. This Elaine Turner clutch is perfect for this summer. I imagine pairing it with white jeans, wedges, a colorful top, and colorful/gold jewelry.

What I’m Currently Reading

I’m not a big reader. I know I should be but I have a pretty low attention span and long boring books seem to deter my eye. I typically like to read “page turners,” like most people probably do. I enjoy reading books that make me laugh. In the past few years I have read Bossypants by Tina Fey, Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler, My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands by Chelsea Handler, Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me by Chelsea Handler, and White Girl Problems by Babe Walker. I’m currently reading Babe Walker’s newest book, Psychos. As you can see, I read for pleasure…not for educational purposes.

Bossypants is hilarious, I love Tina Fey. My favorite Chelsea Handler book would have to be Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me. I mean, you cannot read these books in public if you’re going to be embarrassed by randomly laughing out loud, because this book WILL make you laugh out loud. But I would highly recommend reading all of her books, including her new one (which I have heard is great) Uganda Kidding Me.

Currently, I am reading Psychos by Babe Walker. I knew I wanted to read Babe Walker’s new book after I read White Girl Problems last summer. Babe’s books are filled with sarcastic humor, Babe’s lingo, and designer fashion.

After I finish reading Psychos, I want to read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, and after that Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling. Gone Girl has been made into a movie and will be released in theaters on October 3, 2014. I typically do not like to read books that become movies because everyone always complains about how “it wasn’t like the book.” I enjoy movies and I don’t want that experience to be ruined because I was criticizing every single difference from the book! However, I am going to read Gone Girl because so many of my friends have told me that it’s an absolute must-read, so now I’m convinced! I also want to read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling because I recently finished watching the second season of The Mindy Project on Hulu Plus. Mindy Kaling is hilarious in The Mindy Project, so I’m excited to read her book!

Beauty: My Recent Favorite Products

Today I went to Ulta for two things: Urban Decay Eyeshadow in ‘Foxy’ and bareMinerals Original Foundation in ‘Medium Beige.’ However, I left with only one item on my To-Buy List (unfortunately they were out of the eyeshadow I needed). Although, I did leave with three other items that were not on my list, because isn’t that what you’re supposed to do when you go shopping? Buy things you don’t need, or at least that you think you didn’t need.

I ended up buying Essie Quick-E Drying Drops Solution, bareMinerals Redness Remedy, and bareMinerals Multi-Wrinkle Repair (pictured below).

essie drops bare minerals

I am now in LOVE with these products!

Essie Quick-E Drying Drops Solution helps your nail polish dry fast, protects polish from smudges, dents, or scratches, and is easy to apply! Essie also makes several other quick-e solutions for stronger nails, shine, and more! You can get them all at your local drugstore. I used these drops after painting my nails and I went to bed 30 minutes later and when I woke up I didn’t have any “sheet smears”!! I usually never paint my fingernails because I always end up messing them up, but now I can save so much money on manicures and do it myself at home! Thanks to Essie Quick-E Drying Drops Solution!!

I have only been using these two bareMinerals products for a couple of days now so I don’t have any major result reviews for y’all yet, but I can tell you what I like so far!

The bareMinerals Redness Remedy helps reduce facial redness on contact and over time. It is powered by the bareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex, which instantly minimizes the appearance of broken capillaries and brightens skin for a healthy-looking, more even-toned complexion. The Redness Remedy also comes with a antibacterial-treated Soothing Compress Brush that is super soft! If you use other bareMinerals products, then I can tell you that it is very similar to the bareMinerals foundation. It is a powder that you tap into the lid and swirl around, similar to other bareMinerals products. When you dispense it in the lid it has a yellowy color to it, but it does not look yellow on your skin! It is a very light product, it does not feel greasy or anything negative. After using it a couple of times, so far, I have noticed that it instantly reduces the redness on my face. I wouldn’t say that I have rosacea by any means, but whenever I work out I get very red, like I would be humiliated to see someone I know after a workout. So I’m hoping that this remedy helps with that over time.

The bareMinerals Multi-Wrinkle Repair helps diminish the appearance of forehead wrinkles, brow furrows, crow’s feet, and frown lines. This treatment is created to work on multiple surface layers of the skin and is powered by the ActiveSoilTM Complex, anti-aging peptides and plant extracts, each key ingredient has been carefully chosen to target specific wrinkles while addressing new wrinkles before they become more evident. The results include fine lines instantly softened, the length and depth of wrinkles are noticeably reduced, and skin looks smoother and younger over time. I know I’m only 23 years old, but I am already insecure about my forehead wrinkles, brow furrows, and frown lines. Why not start getting rid of them as early as I can!

Healthy Living: Daily Greens Cold-Pressed Juice

I recently stumbled upon Daily Greens Cold-Pressed Juice while I was shopping in Central Market. I was immediately intrigued and decided to buy six of them…oops. I figured that I could drink two juices per day, just to try the cleanse out.

I have tried a juice cleanse before (search my blog for the ‘Juicing: My Experience’ blog post) and I really do like them. However, until now I haven’t tried cold-pressed juices.

Introducing, Daily Greens Cold-Pressed Juices, the most amazing juice ever!

daily greens

This juice comes in delicious flavors (see picture below)! My personal favorite thing about Daily Greens juices is that they are extremely good for you! Each bottle contains SIX POUNDS of fresh, raw produce, NINE SERVINGS of fruits and vegetables!! That’s insane! Those numbers are what immediately convinced me that I needed these in my refrigerator, and in my tummy!

Not only are the Daily Greens juices healthy for you, it all got started from a very interesting woman. Shauna Martin, Daily Greens’ founder, discovered her passion for green juice and all of its life-giving benefits following her battle with breast cancer. You can read more about Shauna Martin’s story at the link below.

Another great thing about Daily Greens, according to their website, is that a portion of Daily Greens’ sales are donated to organizations that assist young women battling breast cancer. So every bottle you drink makes you and many others that much healthier!

If you can’t find a grocery store near you that sells Daily Greens juices, you can order online through their home delivery service!

Summer 2014 Must-Haves

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I would like to take a moment to sincerely thank those who serve and who have served our country. Thank you. We live in the home of the brave, because of the brave.

Summer is finally here, which means a few of my favorite things are back in season: sunnies, bright colored accessories and apparel, and open-toed shoes. Today’s post features just a few things that I have my eye on this summer.

summer 2014 favorites

  1. The ‘Crystal Blue & tahitian Teal Ditty’ Tote by Hayden Reis — $144. What I love about this tote is that it’s made out of Dacron Sailcloth which means it is virtually indestructible, incredibly lightweight, and water/sand resistant. This tote is also very big, which is great for when you go on vacation and need to carry bulky items such as beach towels. Hayden Reis totes come in a variety of sizes and colors also! And the best part (if you ask me) is that you can monogram it!! This tote has six interior pockets, one interior hanging zipper pocket, and a snap hook for your keys or a wristlet!
  2. Water Bottle from J.Crew — $19.50. What I love about this water bottle, besides the fact that it comes in my favorite color (turquoise) is the cute plastic design around the glass water bottle. This water bottle is also dishwasher safe! It’s important to carry a water bottle when you’re out in the sun so that you can stay hydrated, so why not stay hydrated in style!
  3. ‘Aviator Full Color’ Sunglasses with tortoise frame, gold temples, and brown lens treatment from Ray Ban — $175. Okay, I am obsessed with these sunnies!! Recently I have been super into sunnies, there are so many new, funky, retro, and colorful sunnies that people are wearing this season! I have several pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses but I am dying for this pair. I believe that tortoise is always in style and that these sunnies are ready to wear year round!
  4. The ‘Happiness Bracelet’ from Hipanema — $128. The Hipanema Brazilian bracelets are to die for!! They come in so many vibrant, gorgeous colors! What I love about this bracelet is the gorgeous combination of pinks, oranges, and yellows and the different patterns within the bracelets. Another thing I love about the Hipanema bracelets are that it looks like you’re wearing numerous bracelets, but you’re really just wearing one! no more dealing with multiple bracelets sliding up and down your arm. The Hipanema ‘Happiness’ bracelet combines several different types of bracelets into one bracelet that is connected by a lovely gold clasp so that your bracelet is secure on your wrist. These bracelets are a great way to liven up an outfit!
  5. The ‘Nine Space For J.Crew Beach Towel’ from J.Crew — $76. You’re always going to need a good beach towel when you go on a summer vacation. This Nine Space for J.Crew beach tael is perfect for this summer! The pink and white striped beach towel is lined with fringe to add a unique, stylish touch to what would be an ordinary beach accessory.
  6. The ‘Slim’ Flip Flops in ‘Pool Green’ by Havaianas — $26. What I love about this flip flop is that it’s a simple, classic flip flop that’s affordable! These are the type of flip flops you’re going to want to buy in every color and print because they’re never going to go out of style. These flip flops are made in Brazil. They have a cushioned footbed with a textured rice pattern and rubber sole so that they provide extra comfort for those long walks on the beach! I’ve owned a pair of white Havaianas flip flops since I can’t even remember and they are fantastic! Now I’m ready to buy them in fun, bright colors!

I hope that you enjoy these summer accessories as much as I do! I also hope that everyone has a fun and safe Memorial Day!
